Sports Medicine Fellowship

We take immense pride in introducing the newly accredited Sports Medicine Fellowship, a vital component of the Family Medicine Residency at Saint Agnes Medical Center. Positioned as the proud sponsoring residency for this fellowship, our program fosters comprehensive training in the specialized care of athletes. Through a rigorous curriculum, our residents gain a profound understanding of the distinct demands and nuances of sports medicine.

A cornerstone of this educational pursuit is the rotation of all residents through the sports medicine fellow clinic during their PGY2 year. This provides a foundational experience that is further complemented by additional elective opportunities. Notably, each resident contributes as integral medical staff at a diverse array of athletic events, an engagement that spans the entire academic year.

Our sports medicine department holds a significant contract with the Fresno Unified School District, a bustling urban school district renowned for its vibrant athletic calendar. This partnership ensures a rich and dynamic learning environment. Residents benefit from direct involvement in a wide spectrum of sports-related injuries, medical conditions impacting athletic performance, and the imperative preventive care measures vital to maintaining athletes' optimal health and performance levels.

The hands-on experiences and the diverse exposure to sports medicine offered through our fellowship team significantly enhance our residents' clinical acumen. This multifaceted exposure equips them with the skills to address an array of challenges – from immediate injuries to long-term athlete care – effectively contributing to their holistic medical training and fostering a lasting commitment to the field of sports medicine.
